On your way to the Ratway Vaults, you will encounter several Thalmor Guards. You can avoid some fights if your sneaking skill is above average, or you can directly attack and slaughter your opponents. The entrance to the Ratway Vaults is marked by a wooden door and behind it; you will encounter several unusual characters most of them are crazy.
Make sure you locate the locked door in the southwest corner, up on a balcony. That is your target. During your dialogue with Esbern, you will find that Alduin has returned and that the end of the world is near according to him. Skip to content A Cornered Rat is the second main-quest of the second Skyrim act. Objective 1: Talk to Brynjolf When you talk to Delphine, you can ask her additional questions regarding the Thalmor and the Blades.
When you are ready to go, make sure you pick up your equipment and travel to Riften. It is not a good idea to kill the guard, because you will end up in jail, sooner or later. Avoid Hefid the Deaf, Knjakr and Salvianus because they will get hostile when they see you. After the completion of this quest, a shrine to Nocturnal will appear in the Thieves Guild Cistern. Due to a bug, when spoken to, he will say that he has important things to do and will talk sometime later, rather than speaking his scripted post-quest dialogue.
The only required step is to talk to Brynjolf, although it is necessary to do it during the daytime. This is a side quest which you can complete during A Cornered Rat. This is a brief introduction to the main part of the quest.
Would be more fun. At least it is not as bad as in Oblivion. Did you play Dark Brotherhood in Oblivion? THAT was bad. You had to kill the good guys It's been a while since I played Oblivion, so I don't quite remember the people we killed then, pretty sure it's the same in Skyrim though, on one of the quests, or one of the repeatable ones you have to kill a beggar, not to mention I don't think the Emperor was nessacary a bad guy?
Sure, he helped wiped out the Dark Brotherhood but er, the DB are the bad guys, so he would have a right to do that. No matter how much I wanted to kill him for killing Astrid, Nazir, Festus, and Gabriella in particular, yeah I know what Astrid did, but still wished you didn't have to kill her. I would use the blade of woe more, but a bow is my style, it's just annoying moving to a target and having someone else in the same area never move and are watching you, so dagger fails in killing them, then they always turn around.

You can just go straight to Esbern You don't have to talk to anyone. AS88 Well-Known Member. Invader Vin Member. As others have pointed out, there are other ways of doing it.
My favorite method is beating up dirge for the info. I think Keerava from the Bee and Barb gets you pointed in the right direction if you wanna keep things story driven as opposed to just showing up in the ratway. Informative x 1. Saozig Hippy. I believe you tell him the dragon issue is more pressing or something like that he tells you where to find Esbern and tells you to come back when you've dealt with the dragon issue.
This is the way I usually go about it. Like x 2. Brynjolf annoys the hell out of me. He has a lot of nerve. Hildolfr It's a big hammer.
