How does evasion work in path of exile

Vaal Molten Shell is a vaal spell that creates a shell around the user that grants extra armour and absorbs incoming hits, absorbing more damage with increased armour. Each second or when expiring, the shell deals fire damage around it based on how much damage it has absorbed. Energy shield is a form of defence that acts as an additional hit point pool on top of life.

Unlike life, energy shield will recharge naturally after the character has not taken any damage for 2 seconds. Armor is most definitely close to useless.

Along with armour and energy shield, evasion is one of the three defence types that can implicitly appear on equipment. All classes start with 53 base evasion rating and gain 3 additional evasion per level.

The first level is included in this, so a level 1 character will have 56 base evasion. Pure Energy Shield is basically a recharging health bar. Not mixing other layers leaves a major weakness to incoming physical — a basalt only goes so far.

Only Ranger and Shadow can do pure evasion because of the stupid amount of move speed they can get. So to further explain my argument here, lets compare all of our options. Tabletop role-playing games. View Profile View Posts. Evasion reduces the chance to be hit by "attacks" so it works vs any type of attack damage physical, elemental, or chaos , but does not work vs spells or attacks which "cannot be evaded".

You can layer defenses for a much more survivable character. Flasks can add a lot to this. Also, elemental conversion effects like on the flask Taste of Hate can greatly reduce incoming physical damage by using elemental resistence as your defense instead of physical reduction. At least 10k without flasks is necessary. Armour prevents less damage against smaller hits. If you have armor, it will never reduce the damage you take from a hit by more than Energy shield will stop recharging if the character takes damage. Evading an attack prevents all damage and other harmful effects including status ailments and stun. Only melee and ranged attacks can be evaded; spells automatically hit. If he rolls a 1 against a fireball, he takes full damage.
