The franchise has now expanded into two anime series and two full-length animated feature films. The series would later branch into a live-action movie, video games, and other merchandise. The original Fullmetal Alchemist series aired from until The film follows Edward Elric from another universe, who seeks to fight back against the Thule Society. Their goal is to retrieve weaponry that could turn the tides during World War II.
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is another anime series that ran from until Anime fans who are looking to start Fullmetal Alchemist regularly ask the question: do I need to watch the original before starting Brotherhood? They are completely different series. I have never managed to locate a copy of this, but it probably makes the most sense to watch it only after you've completed the TV series. Unlike The Conqueror of Shamballa , The Sacred Star of Milos isn't a sequel - rather, it's a side-story taking place somewhere around episode 20 of Brotherhood.
You could, in principle, watch it at any time after episode 24 of Brotherhood , but I would recommend leaving it until the end of the series anyway. There are also four half-episode-length specials that accompany Brotherhood. You should watch these after you have finished Brotherhood. Sign up to join this community.

But if you watch it first, then the scenes both series share which had a lot more emotional impact in the first series, due to the fact that it wasn't squeezed into 10 episodes and made any death look like some fodder , then that experience will be lost, so I suggest watching the first one first.

Make something connect to another, and you've got yourself a mastermind writer. What she tied, were plot-points that were extremely simple and linear to begin with. Nothing intricate. Hence the term "too shonen". Well you don't say, we know he's angry and vengeful, it's about execution. The started with in a terrifying way with losing the leg, that abomination, and fading to black, showing the anime's title with Ed's screams.
BH started with action filler. Nina and Alexander, Izuna's baby, Ishbalan war it was decent enough in BH , Hughes' you know what, they were all rushed and not given enough effort. As for when both series diverge, the original retains its impact while the second anime ruins it either with unnecessary comedy that is out of place or talk-no-jutsu or mindless action.
As I said before, the emotion impact is lost because of the source's dive in writing quality and the studio's poor handling of certain moments, other than animation. Watch Brotherhood first, then FMA.
Why the hell is this thread even still being posted on, the op already chose to watch FMA first as well as watched brotherhood. Although, if you didn't or have a feeling that you wouldn't enjoy the one, then watch Brotherhood instead.
I liked it so much that I almost completely forgot about what happened in the other one. So, yeah, do either of the two. Just Watch "Brotherhood" it's canon through and throughout. Watch FMA first because 1. Wait a month of 2 then go watch FMAB and be blown away.
If you could only watch one for whatever reason, I would say that you should watch Brotherhood. Preview Manga Manga Store.

Those changes will be clearly presented to you in brotherhood, after just watching the original series. Studio bones did an excellent job crafting their own original story and i think you will like it. Personally i thing brotherhood did a greater job with the first 13 episodes, as apposed to what the series shown from the original manga material, but when the show branched off from like episode 30 i believe into the new story line created by studio bones is when things got pretty interesting.
My answer is watch the first FMA first and then if you feel unsatisfied of not knowing the rest of the story then watch brother hood next because they get through the story of the original in 13 episodes and there's about 60 all together BBCode. And little emotional impact? What were you doing when you were watching the show? Did you see the episode with Mustang and Envy; how angry and vengeful Mustang felt? If it's the first 10 episodes, then I can agree with you that Nina's and Hughes' arcs were rushed, but that's about it. I actually liked Rose's arc better in Brotherhood because it didn't drag as much.
The being said, I suggest watching the series first, since Brotherhood recaps the first 25 episodes in its first
